So how democratic is the situation of those who are uninsured, underinsured struck with catastrophic illness, which their insurance will not stretch to?

We are the only country in the First World where some citizens have to look to charity for medical treatment.

Great post. I don't know if it qualifies about something that's specific to the US healthcare *system*, but I'm especially glad for the numerous dedicated, skilled, passionate, and compassionate physicians and nurses I've encountered in the past couple of years.

And from my own readings this year, I'm glad to know about the VA healthcare system's successes at both effectiveness and efficiency. May we learn from that organizations ups and downs as we create the future!
